How the check works
We probe the square with short transects and measure the local gradient over 300 metres, which is the scale a rideable hill actually exists at. We deliberately do not measure total relief across the square: by that measure western Kansas scores higher than Stillwater, because it picks up the regional tilt of the plains rather than anything you could ride.
For reference, Stillwater returns a 3.0% median gradient with 47% of probes at or above 3%, and yields 252 real descents. Houston and western Kansas both return 0%.
Checks are cached, so a square already measured answers instantly. Payment is not wired up yet, so nothing here charges you.
